How to Homeschool Part 12: Organizing your homeschool day

There are as many ways to organize a homeschool schedule as there are families that take on this quest. While there is excitement in such freedom, it can also be so broad that newcomers feel overwhelmed by all the options. In this collection of videos I offer some things for you to consider as you figure out what works for your own family, as well as some of the things that worked for mine.

How to Homeschool Part 11: A full childhood

One of the great gifts of homeschooling is the opportunity to respect your child’s humanity, nurture their normal developmental stages, and safeguard their childhood.  I offer these videos as food for thought and inspiration as you continue to envision what learning at home can offer. It is so much more than simply doing school at home!

How to Homeschool Part 10: Reasonable Expectations

So often, new homeschool parents think that their kids should be engaged in sit-down learning from 8am-3pm because they think that’s how school is. Not so! In today’s post I talk about reasonable expectations for attention span, as well as how many hours of formal academics to expect in a typical school day. Good news: Homeschooling offers you an immense amount of freedom and flexibility to create a learning environment that you and your kids will thrive with!

@enrichment_studies You don’t have to be “doing school” from 8-3! #Homeschool #homeschooling #homeschoolmom #howtohomeschool ♬ original sound – Erica Johns: How to Homeschool

How to Homeschool Part 9: If someone is crying, the lesson is done

Understanding how learning works is so important for all of us, but especially for home educators. One of the simplest things to keep in mind is: If your child is stressed, sad, scared, being scolded, or crying, they are not able to learn. Do not let your frustrations override your compassion as a parent. This video talks more about this important topic. (Don’t miss the resource link under the video)

How to Homeschool Part 8: Joy is a great teacher

In your enthusiasm (and possibly in your fear) for doing a Really Good Job Homeschooling, it can be easy to fall into the trap of trying to recreate school at home, and becoming overly strict or rigid in your methods. I want to encourage you to embrace the opportunity you have to allow home education to capitalize on JOY. In this video I explain more about what I mean by that.
