Digital photography is getting increasingly popular, and the technology that is available today has really opened up the opportunities for beginners as well as those with more advanced skills!  I know quite a few homeschool mom friends of mine that are also quite skilled at photography, some of whom have created businesses doing baby and family portraits, wedding photography, and more!

Another trend I’ve seen is student photography really growing by leaps and bounds.  With the quality cameras built into smartphones today and the many filtering apps available all over the place, kids are churning out some really high-quality photography and wanting to learn more.  It is not uncommon to see students creating businesses around their photography skills, as well.  Web design, stock photo sites, graphic design, fine arts, portraiture, blogging, journalism, and social media are all popular, growing, legitimate ways to utilize photography and earn an income!  Photography is also a powerful way to enjoy nature study, to experience art, and to tell a story.  If your kids are already inclined toward photography, it is a wonderful interest to encourage and develop!

The Art of Andreas Lie

andreas lie wolf

This art by Andreas Lie caught my attention this year, and my sons and I thought it was really fascinating.  Andreas is a 24 year old mixed-media artist from Norway, and in this series he artfully combines photography of wild animals with landscapes.  What a creative approach!  Don’t you agree?

Andreas graciously gave me permission to share his work with you here.  Isn’t it cool?  You can follow Andreas on Facebook, or buy his prints here, or here if you are in the UK.

Don’t Miss This Profound Photography Collection

four sisters

I was really moved by this seemingly simple photography collection.

The premise is simple:

Four sisters get their picture taken once a year for forty years.

They don’t dress specially.

They don’t pose.

They don’t even smile in most of them.

And yet……wow!  The passage of time.  The emotions that come forth.

Go take a look at these, and see if you aren’t also moved by them.

What do you see?  What do you feel?  This is a free writing opportunity for you, my friend.

So many people are interested in photography these days, and I think it’s a wonderful skill to develop.  This collection seems to me a reminder that sometimes there is great depth in an ordinary, unfussy subject matter.
