I didn’t grow up in a home with art, and when I got married and had a home of my own, I didn’t know how to decorate anything. Fortunately I was married to an artist, so eventually we accumulated a few things of his that we loved. Over the years I met people that inspired me to branch out into having art, color, and personality infused all over my home, and it has been really fun to grow into that.
I love having art of many different types all over my house, and my family does, too. Art is a natural part of our environment, and I think that’s a positive thing for all of us.
I’ve done several periscope episodes as a kind of show-and-tell from around my home, in hopes that you might get some fresh ideas about bringing more art into your own life. Enjoy!

Digital photography is getting increasingly popular, and the technology that is available today has really opened up the opportunities for beginners as well as those with more advanced skills! I know quite a few homeschool mom friends of mine that are also quite skilled at photography, some of whom have created businesses doing baby and family portraits, wedding photography, and more!
Another trend I’ve seen is student photography really growing by leaps and bounds. With the quality cameras built into smartphones today and the many filtering apps available all over the place, kids are churning out some really high-quality photography and wanting to learn more. It is not uncommon to see students creating businesses around their photography skills, as well. Web design, stock photo sites, graphic design, fine arts, portraiture, blogging, journalism, and social media are all popular, growing, legitimate ways to utilize photography and earn an income! Photography is also a powerful way to enjoy nature study, to experience art, and to tell a story. If your kids are already inclined toward photography, it is a wonderful interest to encourage and develop!

Here’s an interesting and beautiful form of art that you may not be familiar with: Candle Carving! This video is under 5 minutes long and does a great job of explaining the process and method of this art form. You can also see a bunch of beautiful carved candles here.

About me: I started my homeschooling journey in 1997 and graduated the last of my six children in 2021. Amidst all the hard work, crazy days, uncertainty, and lost pencils, what I think we really gained was the gift of a lifetime: TIME TOGETHER. So awesome! Click my pic to learn more.
